Follicum Phase 2 Scalp Trial Fully Recruited, Tsuji News & More

Today, Follicum announced their phase 2a trial of FOL-005 for the scalp is fully recruited. The trial consists of injections of Follicum’s modified peptide, FOL-005, over a three month period. This trial design is supportive for a data readout by year’s end, as enrollment has been completed while still in June.

CEOof Follicum, Jan Alenfall, had this to say about achieving enrollment:

“We are very pleased to note that all patients are recruited and that we are slightly ahead of plan. Our intention with the current clinical trial is to confirm recently documented results, where we saw both good effect and safety with FOL-005, as well as a very high patient response. We are looking forward to being able to present the results by the end of this year.”

Follicum has really been cruising through the clinical trial process since they first hit the scene in 2015. Realizing that we will be receiving important trial results from FOL-005 by the end of this year (as long as things go to plan) isterrific news. Follicum is also continuing their development of an effective topical version of FOL-005 which is the form they plan to use as their market approved drug.

Tsuji Starting Studies

According to Kyodo News of Japan, Organ Technologies and Dr. Tsuji will soon begin animal studies for their hair follicle culturing method. Dr. Tsuji recently stated his method aims to create 5,000 – 10,000 hair follicles using three types of stem cells from a small tissue biopsy.

At this point it’s not clear what type of animal studies they are moving into, as early iterations of Tsuji’s method have already been tested on rodents. Thearticle from Kyodostill mentions that Organ Technologies hopes to commercialize this treatment in 2020.

Hair Growth Therapy Pipeline 2018

I have recently created a gannt style pipeline chart featuring all of the companies from the Ultimate Guide to Hair Regeneration 2018. The chart represents a visual display of each company’s progress. In the chart, colored “progress bars” for each company extend to a clinical trial phase which indicates the company is at least currently engaged in that trial phase or has completed it. Those of you who regularly check theUpdates page可能看到这s chart when it was posted last Friday.

Enjoy and please feel free to share with your colleagues.

    • Hi Michael, this is also addressed in the Contact FAQs on this website and I’m happy to share again. To get involved in a clinical trial please contact the company with a therapy in the clinical trial process which you are interested in and ask for direction on how to join a study.

  1. To Lori who entered her email incorrectly: When the product is released it will become known how to acquire the product.

  2. Has Follica really been pushed back to 2020 now? I thought it was supposed to be this year.

  3. I so Thank GOD that for once a company is seeing good results and is ahead of schedule and we can see results at end of year .It is so saddening when we are told 5 years 5 years all the time .I would like to enjoy a few years of whats left of my life with nice hair GOD willing as hair loss has impacted my whole life in a very bad way as I only leave house to shop for food and to go to work nowadays.

  4. Hello, What is meaning of H2 in H2 2018 in case of replicel launch date?

    • Great question. Shiseido will reveal this in the coming months.

  5. Thanks for the chart it’s really good !

Frankly I’ve been waiting for a website to put up something like this and it really is a great added value for yours. Cause for us readers that are not experts, it’s hard to keep up with all the names and where everyone is in terms of product development at this point.

If you are planning on enriching the chart, a useful information for me would be to add the type of NH grade it would be efficient on and maybe on which type of Allopecia or gender is works best.

Thx to all. Hopefully we’ll be there soon.

  6. Hi Admin,

Love the product pipeline chart. Thanks for the awesome job. What is the timeline from replicel based off? The most recent news i can find is an announcement in 2016 saying they planned for 2018 market launch. Hoping you have more recent announcements from them as in hairloss an announcement from 2 years ago has probably a drastically changed timeline now. Any newer information im missing??

    Thanks

    • That’s the latest, though Replicel has made some comments since then about Shiseido potentially launching in 2018.

Ultimately, we will be hearing from Shiseido this year with a definitive answer. Thanks for kind words.

  7. Hey Admin,

I was just looking at chart once again. So the interesting thing about it is that we can see most products will be simultaneously coming out in 2021 (chart says 2020 but I kine adding a year for safety purposes).

Do you think it could make sense to use 4 or 5 of them in order to regain growth ? As well, and I know that this is a tougth question because you receive as little info as we all do but, which do you think are the most promising products for balded areas (aside from Hai Clone) ?

    Thx in advace

    • I think combining several therapies makes a lot of sense and could potentially create increased efficacy. Once we see more photo data from companies it will be easier to answer the 2nd q.

  8. I thought tusji was on to human trials for commercial release?
